Enjoying a coffee with your girlfriends, shopping and looking at exciting new product sounds like the perfect day out, but for thousands of Australian mums it’s work.
Only one in five Australian mothers report being a happy parent with the perfect balance, research by the Department of Family and Community Services reveals.
All mothers make slightly different choices, and have different experiences, but balance appears universally elusive.
There is a growing desire among women to work part-time, and while such flexibility would be ideal, it’s not easy for employers to cater to everyone’s needs.
Selling products from home is a great way to boost your bottom line without sacrificing what’s most important to you, your family.
Former Civil Litigation Solicitor, Bronwen Charleson from Geelong, Victoria, found her solution quite literally in a catalogue when she picked up a Phoenix Trading catalogue in April 2006.
Phoenix Trading is a greeting card, gift wrap and stationery company offering an easy, fun and accessible way to buy and sell quality cards. Started by three British women who wanted a home based business selling a product they loved, Phoenix Trading was established in 1995 and expanded to the Australian market in 2006.
“When Phoenix Trading entered my life in April 2006, I was a busy stay-at-home mum caring for my two children,” Bronwen says.
“I wasn’t looking for a new opportunity but when I saw the Phoenix Trading products and read the information about the very rewarding nature of the business, I signed up and eagerly awaited the arrival of my beautiful cards and products to see.”
Like 1600 other Phoenix traders, Bronwen now makes money having coffee with friends, family and clients, while talking about product she is genuinely passionate about.
“The best part is that I am able to achieve my new business goals without compromising my children,” she says.
Direct selling is an excellent opportunity to create a worthwhile enterprise with an established and respected company.
With so many brands and products on the market your direct selling options and rewards are endless. Many companies offer free merchandise based on sales numbers, employee discounts, and rewards for recruiting other members.
For Brisbane mum Vicky Lewis, the best thing about direct selling is working when it suits her.
“I am very passionate about being a stay-at-home-mum, and for me part-time work just wasn’t an option,” she says.
The mother-of-three joined Phoenix Trading in 2006.
“It was a fairly new concept at the time, so I wanted to get into it before anybody else,” she says.
“I don’t consider this job as work, as I get to go out, have a coffee with great people, and talk about a product that I’m very passionate about.”
An avid charity supporter, Phoenix Trading recently raised over $415,000 for the Australian Red Cross, and has donated regularly to Canteen since its inception in 2006.
